In a life reminiscent of Elizabeth Seton, Mary Lou Alderman was married, founded an Episcopalian monastic community and eventually became a Daughter of Charity. She served as a prison chaplain, college administrator and teacher. She later became a lay hermit for the rest of her life, working 10 years as a social caseworker with Child Protective Services and with her own private counseling practice. She wrote spiritual literature and was a spiritual director for many people. Source
